About Zika Virus

Dear customers:

The Kichwa Añangu community and its project Napo Wildlife Center, feels responsible to communicate and inform about the Zika virus.

It is important that our visitors are aware that in Ecuador, the ZIKA virus has not reached epidemiological levels – 52 confirmed cases – Statistics reflect and classify us in the level of an OUTBREAK; we deal with very few, sudden and isolated appearances. It is also essential to inform you that within our territory – Yasuni National Park -there are no registered cases until today,  and there is no history of dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya either.

Furthermore we   emphasize that our lodge is surrounded by “black water” tributaries whose PH is very low due to the Amazonia vegetation, its color is due to its origin in the virgin forest and is inappropriate for mosquito breeding.

However during walks inside the jungle we ALWAYS make the following recommendations:

  • Use light-colored clothing, long pants and long sleeve shirts.
  • Use insect repellent on exposed skin, especially during morning and evening.

Additionally inside our lodge we are fully equipped with:

  • Mosquito nets for beds and windows.
  • Wastes resulting from the hotel, are handled according to health regulations to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes.
