Mother Nature takes care of us so long as we respect and take care of her in return. Here within the UNESCO designated Yasuni Biosphere Reserve, Nature’s generosity is far more impressive than you have ever imagined! Our ancestral custom of environmental stewardship has made us want to continue to make this a priority. We will continue to pass our way of life and this key perception of value down to the next generations. Therefore, in the spirit of living in sustainable harmony with our natural surroundings, we built the Napo Wildlife Center and Napo Cultural Center in order to work from home and share our knowledge of the fascinating beauty of Amazonia with others. Considered to be the best destination in the world for tourists interested in biodiversity, the Napo Wildlife Center offers this and so much more! Come discover a plethora of activities in the Amazon.
We have four panoramic observation towers in different locations. You can’t go wrong with multiple viewing platforms to choose from. There is no telling how many different species you will be able to count in one day alone! The closest tower is made from local materials and is located within the heart of the hotel complex, towering 40 meters above the lake and offering a 360-degree view of your mesmerizing surroundings. Another favorite tower is a half-hour hike away, rising more than an astonishing 38 meters beside an ancient Kapok tree. This feat of engineering is designed for 15 guests at a time, and complies with international regulations as your safety is our priority at all times.
More than 610 species of birds call this rainforest home! For avid bird watchers, this is one of their favorite attractions and has been called one of the absolute best activities in the Amazon. From the very start, you will find it is significantly more time-efficient to travel by water rather than trying to make your own path through dense forest growth! It’s for this reason that indigenous peoples have used the rivers and streams here as highways throughout the ages. What’s more, there is an irresistible intimacy created when watercraft and wildlife interact; no other method of transportation could let you get up close and personal with the endangered Giant Otter munching on a piranha!
From the traditional fire-starting method to long-distance communication in the jungle, there is no question we can’t answer at the Kuri Mayo Interpretative Center. We would be happy to share the seeds of wisdom we possess which have been passed down through stories and songs from generation to generation.
