The Napo wildlife Center is a first class ecolodge located in the Yasuni Nation Park in the heart of Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest. It was built and designed by the Añangu community as an touristic project which aims to protect and preserve the rich biodiversity of the region.
It is not easy to get to the Napo Wildlife Center but once you reach the place you will experience a once in a life adventure. It is outstanding…the accomodations, the food and the local people who manage the place, all about it is excellent…
The journey to the Napo Wildlife Center is itself an incredible and unique experience. The trip starts in Quito, which as you may know is Ecuador’s capital. From the city’s national airport you will flight to Coca city in the headwaters of Ecuador Amazon Rainforest. There, the Napo Wildlife Center staff will be waiting for you to take you to the lodge. Immediately you will embark a motorized canoe for a boat ride down the Napo River.
Along the way to the lodge you will see many birds species including, herons, kingfishers as well as the Hoatzin which is a peculiar bird species found on this region. Also, other animals as the Anaconda, Monk Sakis, Giant River otters, Macaws, etc., may show up.
After approximately 2 hours on the river, you will get to a large sandbar and go for a short walk through the rainforest until you reach a luxury canoe. From this point you will rode on a hand paddled canoe on a narrow stream until you finally reach the Añangu Lake and see the red cabins of the Napo Wildlife Center.
As you reach the Center you will be welcomed by the staff and the local guides. The lodge has an open-air typical from the region design. It has beautiful gardens and streams to walk, see some birds and take beautiful photos.
There are 16 spacious and comfortable cabins with private bathroom and toilet facilities. Also there is a main room at the center of the lodge. In here there is a restaurant where you can taste a variety of local and international food; a library and a more than 10 meters observation tower.
