Thanks to Napo Wildlife Center and our initiative to run important projects for our local communities, life is being improved every day in the Ecuadorian Amazonia. Learn more about each one of them!
There are two main projects which form a plan called “Clean Technologies”. One of them is a solid waste management, while the other is a production project. Imagine, for example, a device capable of converting garbage from one kitchen into biogas that will be supplied to the same kitchen, to recycle energy and stop residual waste. Go beyond and imagine our community producing its own food without needing to buy every single thing!
The kitchens from Napo Cultural Center, Napo Wildlife Center and the soup kitchen (meal center) are going to recycle their waste to obtain biogas, through a device called ‘digester’. This device is a hermetic container that allows decomposition in anaerobic conditions by extracting the resulting gas to use it as a source of energy.
The digester has some disadvantages, such as a toxic, corrosive gas called hydrogen sulfate, and the natural risk of explosion or fire by mistaken uses.
You may ask yourself how we are going to get the organic waste for the digester. The answer is very simple: through recycling wisely! We created a Recycling Center that lets us protect the environment, boost tourism and work hard for our communities. We classify the trash by splitting cardboard, glass, plastic, food and medical waste into different groups strategically located in some spaces of our community. Through this wise action we improve our own health, and yours, of course.
Apart from these projects, our most important achievement is to become active people who can live on their own in a good way, respecting nature and being conscious of the current dangers the Earth has been going through.
