To assemble this new tower, we used natural elements and the entire structure was done by members of our Kichwa community. Even the general manager of the whole complex, Giovanny Rivadeneira, participated in the construction.
We are proud to tell you that our tower was built by hand, there was no helping machinery. This was a very intensive work that took us several months to finish, and we started it approximately two years ago. All the supplies are completely natural and renewable. We grabbed them from the surrounding areas, such as rivers and intensive farming areas. This tower will benefit all of the people involved: it will help us improve our life, and it will help you knowing our place better.
The plants we used to build the tower were palm trees, bamboos, toquilla straw (also used to produce the famous Panama hats) and a local pine called chuncho (Schizolobium amazonicum), among other local plants. They were carefully selected not to damage the environment, and they were carried to the place through canoes, because it is the only way we can transport materials and people.
We used the ancestral knowledge inherited from our predecessors to build this tower, but we also engaged new practices to assure your comfort inside it.
There are some animal sculptures inside the tower. Their story is very singular: each sculpture was made by our craftspeople and brought to the tower by the river. But wait! They were not brought in canoes: they were so heavy that our people had to swim with them from one extreme of the river to the other! In one of our videos, you can see two of our workers using a crocodile sculpture used as a canoe, it’s amazing the way they did it!
The tower has 40 meters and seven floors. It is located in the middle of the National Park Yasuni, to give you a panoramic view of Napo Wildlife Center and the whole park.
The first floors allow you to stay in our comfortable living rooms, bars, and even a boutique! The upper floors let you discover our natural surroundings, while you eat the best food and have a look on the many species of plants and animals we live with.
Some days ago, on July 25th, 2015, we inaugurated the tower with important personalities such as Mr. Giovanni Rivadeneira (Kichwa community chief), Mr. Freddy Ehlers Zurita (State Secretary for the Construction of a Society of Good Life), Mr. Dominic Hamilton (Vice Minister of Touristic Promotion), and other special guests.
Imagine the amazing vision of a sunset, a sunrise or the stars at night, watch the birds, share our point of view about nature, and admire our protected paradise from up there! We’ll be waiting for you, come and discover our new attraction!
