The Napo Wildlife Centre has just received one of the most prestigious hotel industry awards this month, on July 13th at the Real Plaza Hotel & Convention Center in La Paz, Bolivia, because of its excellence of service as Ecuador’s Leading Green Hotel.
This year is the 25th annual awards ceremony, of the organisation which monitors and rewards luxury hotel service all over the world. The 2019 Latin American Ceremony has premiered the Napo Wildlife Center as Ecuador’s Leading Green Hotel 2019. Miguel Andi proudly accepted the award on behalf all those involved in running the Ecolodge and Tour centre. The lodge had previously been nominated as the world’s leading Ecolodge some ten years ago, but this year it received a double nomination. That of South America’s Leading Ecolodge and Ecuador’s Leading Green Hotel. In fact, Ecuador as a whole, has been named as South America’s Leading Green Destination.
As one would imagine, the competition for these awards is fierce and any traveller that heeds the recommendation that an award of this kind affords, will have no regrets about their chosen holiday destination. Who gets the award is decided by both hotel professionals and the guests themselves, who have received the hospitality offered by these hotels.
In the case of Leading Green Hotel, it is not only the personal service that the hotel guest receives, but also care of the local environment too. This is obviously a double challenge. Running a first class hotel in the heart of Amazonia and keeping up standards of excellence at the same time as minimising the human impact on the rainforest is a daunting prospect, but the management and staff of the Wildlife Centre have pulled it off.
The concept of the hotel was to blend in with the environment, using local materials and minimal area of construction to limit damage. It is a commitment to conservatism in action. The local inhabitants of the rainforest, the Kichwa tribe, are the hosts of this amazing hotel. They have mastered all the areas of the hospitality industry and are also the tour guides that take guests on sightseeing and photography trips. As the Ecuadorian Amazon is their ancestral home, they have a very strong commitment to preserve their homeland. Along with preserving their own culture they ensure that contamination from human use is kept at minimal levels. Renewable, solar, energy is in use and being extended. Dirty water and other kinds of waste are treated. Vegetables and fruits for the hotel kitchen are locally grown. Vegetable waste is used to produce biomass, which provides fuel for cooking. Every step is taken to guard the environment.
We invite you to experience this commitment with the flora and fauna of this planet benefit with an Ecuadorian Amazon holiday, to surround yourselves with the wonder of the rainforest, knowing that the revenues earned from your stay will help preserve all that you see.
